The 4 Season Sleeping Bag: Does It Really Exist?
Interesting title is it not?
Truth be told if you do a web search for “4 season sleeping bag” you will be presented with a number of bag options theoretically filling that role. Most of these “4 season” adult sleeping bags on the market, however are bags with lower temperature ratings normally characterizing them as cold-weather bags.
Though the “4 season sleeping bag” classification may work if most of your camping is either done in alpine environments or in the lower latitudes, this categorization seems a bit tenuous if your camping in more temperate environments.
When highly experienced campers find themselves where their camping expeditions ranges from cool/cold to temperate environments, many use one of two different options for their four season bag.
In the first case, experienced backcountry campers own multiple bags of different warmth factors then employ the right one for the expected conditions. As an alternative, others use a high-quality cold-weather bag then add the appropriate sleeping bag liners and/or covers to accommodate expected environmental conditions.
