Down Sleeping Bag Care Tips

After investing in a new down sleeping bag you’ll want to take the appropriate steps to care for your purchase and help extend its useful life for as long as possible …
- Use a sleeping bag liner to protect the lining and help maintain the down’s loft since body fluids and oils can reduce loft substantially;
- After returning from a camping trip, remove the sleeping bag from the stuff sack and air it out to reduce odors and any residual dampness;
- Once you are ready to store the bag, do not return it to the stuff sack. Preferred long term storage (if room is available) would be to hang in a closet or well-aired storeroom. Alternatively either fold and store on a shelf or place in a less constrictive mesh-type bag;
- If you use your bag frequently, wash or launder the bag to the manufacturer’s specifications. If taking the bag to a commercial cleaner, check with other friends and customers to insure they know how to handle and care for your down sleeping bag.
Taking the time to enact these precautions will not only help protect your investment but also help improve the bags performance on camping trips well into the future …
